Swatcher

Swatcher is the service checking program.

Key features

• Runs as a daemon
• Checks any number of hosts
• Supports ping, http, ftp, dbms checks
• Supports mail, sms, beep and console notifications
• Is highly configurable: per check, per host, per notification with it's combinations
• Has postpone feature to skip accidental check failures
• Remembers check failures to prevent mailbox and phone spaming
• Is well structured and easy extendable

Main swatcher script:

• implement statistics reporting
• switch to XML configuration file
• allow several checks of one type for each host
• require modules on demand, don't use them
• allow different pauses for different checks
• allow color messages on console
• try to guess about valid smtp if not set

Online availability monitor:

• make colors and messages configurable
